Noticing a difference in how you feel along with changes in your body during pregnancy are completely normal. However, there are still conditions you should watch for that could point to a potential issue. An important part of pregnancy care is listening to your body, so visit your doctor if you feel any of these symptoms.

3 Pregnancy Symptoms You Should Not Ignore

1. Leg Pain & Discomfort

If you’re feeling pain or discomfort in your calves, visit your pregnancy care provider as soon as possible. Pregnancy increases the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis, which can lead to blood clots in the legs. They can be fatal if they block blood flow, so seek care immediately for leg irritation.

2. Irregular Bleeding & Spotting

If you notice spotting or bleeding while pregnant, it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem, but you should still have your doctor assess the source of the bleeding. Spotting often occurs within the first eight weeks due to implantation of the embryo, but if you’re still experiencing bleeding later into your pregnancy and it’s accompanied with pain, it could indicate issues such as an ectopic pregnancy, placenta previa, or a miscarriage. Visit your obstetrician to determine if anything is wrong.

3. Swelling

If you’re experiencing swelling accompanied by headaches and high blood pressure, these could be signs of preeclampsia. Your pregnancy care provider will distinguish the cause of your swelling.
