Please consider joining fellow Parkinson’s Advocates, families, and friends for a very special Presentation being held at the Capitol Legislative Office Building (LOB ~ Room1B) on April 11th beginning at 9:30 am in Hartford acknowledging April as Parkinson’s Awareness Month

A proclamation honoring those battling Parkinson’s Disease will be presented to a delegation of People with Parkinson’s (PWP) and other stakeholders that are actively involved in pursuing support services and new symptom-relieving treatments for this community.

State General Assembly Representative Lezley Zupkus (89th District), will be joined by other Lawmakers, and present the proclamation to CAP member Joseph Kelley.

“We are quite grateful to be recognized through this Proclamation.  Our Advocacy focus has been directed primarily towards Washington DC., and to have an opportunity to speak directly to our State representatives on what its like to live with this disease is important”, Kelley stated.

Kelley has just returned from a three day Public Policy Forum in DC last week, where the emphasis was the pursuit of funding for desperately needed Research dollars through NIH, and to encourage the commencement of a National Registry for Parkinson’s and Multiple sclerosis (MS).  Both Parkinson’s Disease and MS are defined as progressive degenerative Neurological conditions for which there is no known cause or cure.

“Reaching out to my Representative Zupkus was a natural step, due to her commendable record of supporting those with disabilities,” Kelley explained regarding this three-term Assemblywoman.  Joseph Kelley also has a history of supporting various local charities and has served as a volunteer for the Bethany fire department for over 30 years.

“We are quite proud of Joe,” shared Steve DeWitte, Board Member of Connecticut Advocates for Parkinson’s, “and pleased to be joined by so many support group leaders and Movement Disorder Specialists from across the state including those representing Glastonbury, Branford, Southbury, Torrington, Middletown, and Greenwich.”  Representatives from the American Parkinson Disease Association, The Michael J Fox Foundation, and MS CT are also expected to be in attendance.

The Presentation is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. (Attendees are encouraged to arrive before 9:00 am). ~  210 Capitol Avenue.

Following the program, delegates across the state hope to meet with their representatives and share a list of ways their state can better support and serve the PD Community.
