Now that spring is here, All State Construction warns that it’s time to be on the alert for signs of termites in your home. As temperatures increase in Lexington and throughout South Carolina, these pests will leave their colonies to make their way into your home. If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to call the exterminator right away.

4 Signs You Have Termites

1. Hollowed-Out Wood

If you knock on your wall and hear a hollow or papery sound, call an exterminator. Termites eat wood from the inside out, often leaving just a thin strip of lumber. Exterminators often hear that homeowners didn’t know they had an infestation until a light bump creates a hole or other significant damage.

2. Termite Droppings

Do you see a small pile of what looks like sawdust? These exterminators share that this might actually be frass—also known as termite droppings. Grab a magnifying glass to take a closer look; what appears to be dust might actually look more like tiny pellets.

3. Pinholes in Wood

4. “White Ants”

Termites are often mistaken for white ants. White ants do not exist; if you think you see one in your home, it’s probably a termite. Look for a straight antenna, a thicker midsection, and two identically-sized sets of wings.
