The city of Memphis in Tennessee is known for its culture and history. And one of its most important sites is the Mallory-Neely House. Operated by the Pink Palace Family of Museums, this historic house offers an amazing experience for the entire family. Take a look below at what you can expect to discover at this location.

A Guide to the Mallory-Neely Historic House

1. Architecture

historic housesDue to its historic architecture, this house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Columbus and Frances Neely bought the home in 1883 and it was passed down through the generations until the 1970s. All throughout that time, the original interiors and architecture were maintained well by the family. After opening it as a house museum and later gifting it to the city in 1980, the home can still be explored today. It offers well-preserved interiors and pieces purchased by the family.

2. Family Life

This house allows you to witness more than just the architecture of the time. It also provides insight into the family life of that period. Visitors can see what the family purchased at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 and the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904. Visitors in wheelchairs can view the first floor and watch an exciting film that guides you through the rest of the home.

3. Accurately Restored Windows

Finally, the windows in this home have recently been restored. Over time, they became damaged and worn, requiring some precise work. However, careful steps were taken to ensure the restored windows still reflect the original architecture. Keeping them historically accurate has allowed the museum to boost your experience so you can discover how the windows would have appeared after their original installation.
