Light-emitting diode (LED) lights have become popular in the last decade. According to the Department of Energy, they use at least 75% less energy than incandescent models. To ensure you achieve the lighting ambiance you desire, it’s important to learn more about LED lights before buying them for your indoor custom lighting projects.

A Brief Introduction to LED Custom Lighting

1. What Is a Kelvin?

A Kelvin (K) is the unit of measure used to determine the color temperature of LED lights. 4,600-6,500 K is considered a high-temperature color, while 2,000-3,000 K is thought of as low-temperature.

2. Why Is This Unit Important?

The temperature of the color affects how it appears. A high-temperature LED light is bright white or blueish in color and low-temperature LEDs are more warm-toned with a tint of orange. Medium-temperature models are still quite bright but not as harsh as high-temperature.

3. Which Option Is Right for Me?

Low-temperature models are similar to the color of candlelight, making them a fabulous choice for living rooms and bedrooms. Since medium-temperature LED lights are bright, they’re commonly used in areas where more visibility is desired, like bathrooms, garages, and sometimes basements. High-temperature models are incorporated in display cases and sometimes garages.
