When Should I Schedule My First Gynecological Appointment?

Girls should see a gynecologist for the first time when they are between the ages of 13 and 15. This gives them a chance to develop a relationship with their doctor and learn about their physical development. Most girls at this age won’t need a pelvic exam, just a regular health exam.

What Exams Will I Need?

During your first visit with an OB-GYN, they will conduct a general physical exam and external vaginal exam. For the physical exam, your doctor will record your height, weight, and blood pressure. They may also ask about your family medical history and sexual history. During the vaginal exam, your doctor will examine the vulva and check for irritation, sores, swelling and other irregularities. 

What Is a Pelvic Exam?
