Event Information

Fairies might only reside in our imaginations, but creating little worlds for them is a passionate hobby for gardeners worldwide. Sunnyside Greenhouse is here to share the magic of creating fairy gardens. The garden center in Quaker City, OH, offers everything you need to beautify your property, including plants, hanging baskets, soil additives, and bulk mulch.

Planting a fairy garden has brought joy to families for more than a hundred years. But what exactly is a fairy garden? It’s a contained little world featuring living plants and flowers, along with whimsical decorative items (such as mini wheelbarrows, houses, and animal figurines), where fairies might frolic. The hobby first debuted in America in the late 19th century, when bonsai gardens were featured at the Chicago World’s Fair. It’s a perfect first gardening project for kids, who will love imagining the fairy world, as well as expert green thumbs in need of inspiration and a creative release.

fairy gardenHow do you build a fairy garden? First, find a vessel. An old serving dish, fishbowl, terrarium, or even a broken piece of pottery all make great options for your fairy garden. Then, stop by your local garden center to shop for plants and flowers. Look for small, colorful blooms, lush moss, and leafy plants for your fairy garden. Finally, add accents throughout your little world. Quaint bridges, tiny bunnies, mini mushrooms, and fairy figurines will breathe life into your fairy garden.
