Selling lingerie, clothes and beauty goods, Victoria’s Secret is a hit among women of all ages and men who are looking for the perfect gift for their partner. In fact, that’s how this whole business got its start.
Roy Raymond, the founder of Victoria’s Secret, actually came up with the concept for this mega brand after a failed attempt to purchase lingerie for his wife. Back in the 70s, most of the department-store sleepwear and underwear for women looked dowdy, drab and purely utilitarian. Raymond wanted to find his wife something elegant and sexy to wear and he felt like there was a gap in the market. After eight years of research, he opened Victoria’s Secret as an outlet for men who wanted to shop for their women without feeling like lecherous intruders.
Since then, Victoria’s Secret has become a staple in both the pop and consumer culture of America. Mall-goers flock to the lingerie store time and time again, and come August 14th, you too can visit its newest outpost at the Mall at Bay Plaza.
