Did you know that the plumbing project you mastered could help you in your career? The skills involved in building trades, electrical trades, and automotive trades are all important at Berk Trade & Business School, located in Long Island City, NY, where students turn their technical knowledge into long-term jobs.

Small classes and individualized attention to students define the Berk Trade & Business School experience. Here, DIY projects are part of classroom learning, as instructors guide students through repairs and installation work like replacing a toilet:

  • Essentials Before Beginning: Before replacing a toilet, shut off the water supply to the toilet and drain as much water from it as possible.
  • Remove Caps & Nuts: The caps on a toilet should pop off easily. Use a wrench properly to pull off the nuts, potentially using needle-nosed pliers to help. Be careful—the nut may be rusted in place.
  • Remove The Old Toilet: Disconnect the supply tube and begin to lift the toilet up and out of the flange holding it in place. Put a rag in the drain opening so gases from the sewer don't escape.
  • Apply New Bolts & Seal: Install the new toilet bolts and place a wax seal onto the flange. You'll also need to apply wax to the bolts.
  • Apply The Tank: The tank can be attached to the bowl with a tank seal and tank bolts. The bolts need to be tight, but not too tight.
  • Install The New Toilet: Put the tank and bowl onto the wax seal and align properly. Reconnect the supply tube and refill the tank. You'll also want to attach the seat using bolts.

If this project confuses you, don't worry. Berk Trade & Business School can help you easily master this simple but important plumbing task. If you already understand the methods, this trade school will reinforce and expand upon your knowledge of plumbing systems. The technical career you want is just a phone call away.
