Have you or your family always wanted to adopt a cat but just never found the right time? Well, you’re in luck! June is National Adopt a Cat Month and many local shelters, rescue groups, and pet hospitals are ready to help you find and care for your forever friend.

Before you welcome your new cat into your household, however, the experts at Waipahu Waikele Pet Hospital recommend you do three things for your kitten:

  • Get an evaluation. This is especially important if you have kids or other pets that can get hurt or sick from a new animal. A simple pet health evaluation will include a meet and greet with your veterinarian and a physical evaluation of your cat. Your cat will be weighed and checked for diseases and other issues.
  • Get proper vaccinations. Vaccines help prevent illnesses in cats, allowing them to live long and healthy lives. The experts at Waipahu Waikele Pet Hospital will help you decide which vaccines are right for your cat.
  • Spay/neuter. Spaying or neutering your new cat will benefit everyone involved. It eliminates heat cycles for female cats and decreases aggressive behavior in male cats. In addition, it reduces unwanted animals who either suffer on the streets or have a chance at being euthanized in a kill shelter.

If you are ready to make an appointment at Waipahu Waikele Pet Hospital or would like to learn more about their pet services, please call (808) 671-7387 or visit them online.
