At some point, it might be necessary to pack up cabinets full of dishes for a move or to put away in storage. However, if you aren’t careful, these fragile items can get broken in transit. As such, it’s important to take extra precautions when packing them away. Below are three storage and moving tips to ensure dishes remain intact.

3 Storage & Moving Tips to Keep Dishes Protected

1. Label Boxes With Fragile Stickers

If you plan to load several items onto the moving truck or in the storage unit, boxes with breakable dishware can easily get lost in the shuffle. It's easy to accidentally place heavy objects on top of boxes that contain dishware; to avoid this scenario, label your boxes as you pack. If a box has fragile items, label every side in large, legible font.

2. Wrap Dishes One at a Time

Hudson-Ohio-storageIn an effort to save time, some people stack dishes in boxes. This is a bad idea, as items could chip or break as they shift in the box or scrape together. To reduce the likelihood of damage, wrap each dish individually in newspaper or Bubble Wrap® before placing them in the box. To secure these items in place, fill in spaces with packing peanuts.

3. Pack Dishes Vertically

When packing dishes, place them in the boxes in long, vertical rows instead of horizontal stacks. By placing each dish on its side, you won’t have to worry about the weight causing the entire stack to crack.
