Whether your 16 or 65, winter can be harsh on your skin. So, to keep it soft and healthy during the colder months, Lauren A. Daman, MD, PC, recommends changing up your skin care routine. As a skilled surgeon and microdermabrasion expert, this Hartford, CT, dermatologist offers a few tips so you can keep your skin fresh and healthy all winter long.

Microdermabrasion Expert Shares 4 Tips for Softer Winter Skin

1. Moisturize More Frequently

In the summer, you may only need to apply hand cream or lotion once a day. In the winter, however, you should moisturize after your morning shower and in the evening before bed. You could even wear soft gloves at night to keep the moisture close to your skin. You’ll wake up with soft, healthy hands.

2. Stay Hydrated

It’s more important than ever to drink water in the winter. The recirculated air in your home is dry, and the wind outside can sap the moisture from your body. Drinking water during the summer can be second-nature, but you should make a special effort to drink 64 ounces each day in the winter, too.

There are plenty of moisture masks you can buy at the local pharmacy, but you don’t have to spend much money to get a great mask. Try making your own with the natural ingredients you can find in your own pantry. Oatmeal, coconut oil, and aloe vera are all great for your skin.

4. Beware of the Sun

You know you need to apply sunscreen in the summer, but did you know that the winter sun can be just as harsh? Use a facial moisturizer with UVA or UVB protection. Wear gloves and a scarf to protect your hands and face from the wind.

Your winter skin can be as soft and beautiful as it is in the summer, as long as you adjust your routine. If you still experience dry skin, then contact Lauren A.
