If you’re not driving your classic car during the winter, it’s smart to put it in auto storage. International Self Storage offers car storage solutions in two convenient locations in Anchorage, AK, to keep your ride safe. Here, they offer four simple suggestions on preparing your car for short- or long-term storage.

How to Put Your Classic Car in Auto Storage

1. Add a Stabilizer

It’s nearly impossible to completely drain the fuel supply from your car, so it’s easier to add a stabilizer. You can purchase fuel stabilizer at any auto parts store. After you add it to the fuel, drive the car for another 15 minutes to allow the stabilizer to mix into the gas.

2. Raise the Vehicle

3. Seal Openings

Even if you store your car indoors, small critters may decide to take up residence inside it. To keep them out, add steel wool to your air filter intake duct and exhaust system. To remember to remove it, attach a bright reminder flag to the steel wool.

4. Protect the Battery

If you don’t drive your car periodically, your battery won’t get recharged and will eventually die. If your battery loses its charge during the winter, it could freeze and become useless. You can either remove the battery and store it safely indoors or hook it up to a battery maintainer to keep it charged.
