Decay, accidents, and specific illnesses can cause your teeth to lose their structure. Thankfully, the CEREC® tooth restoration method helps fix decayed, broken, or weakened teeth to their original strength and pearly whiteness. Best of all, this entire procedure can be completed in a single appointment with no need for temporary teeth. If you are considering this dental treatment, below is the standard process you can expect.

The CEREC Tooth Restoration Procedure Process

Dental Exam & Tooth Preparation

Before the treatment is applied, your dentist will examine the tooth in question. They will then decide, based on how much healthy structure you have left, whether a filling or crown would be the best choice to restore your tooth. Once the best method of restoration is chosen, your dentist should move on to preparing the tooth, which will consist of removing any decayed areas and weakened tissue.

Optical Impressiontooth restoration

After the tooth is prepared, your dentist will take an impression to ensure the crown or filling will align with your current bite. In this case, instead of having you bite into a mold, they will apply a powder to the tooth and then take a digital picture. This removes the wait time for the mold to harden, and your dentist can quickly begin the next step of creating your restoration.

Final Product

Once the dentist has the picture of your tooth, they will send it to the CEREC 3D software, where a virtual model will appear on the screen. From here, the dentist will design your tooth restoration using the program, and after a few minutes, they should send this information to a separate milling machine that will create your tooth. After about 20 minutes, you will be fitted with a ceramic, tooth-colored restoration. When it lines up properly, your dentist will polish and bond the prepared tooth.
