No matter where you live, you’ve likely come in contact with uneven sidewalks. Nothing’s more jarring than going for a stroll and tripping over a heightened slab or falling onto a lower one. Sinking is common in older neighborhoods, or places where the ground is constantly shifting, but concrete lifting can correct this. Below, Jaco Waterproofing of Westfield, IN, explains the process and how it works.

Concrete LiftingConcrete lifting is a simple method for lifting and leveling cement slabs to prevent trips, falls, and other accidents. It is done by injecting a mortar mixture underneath the slab with high pressure. This will raise it and act as a solid foundation when it sets.

The concrete lifting process is fairly fast and simple, but it requires specialized equipment and expertise. Your cement contractor will start by cutting between two slabs with a diamond blade, so the sunken slab can move independently of the raised one. Then, they will drill two or more holes in the slab that needs to be lifted.

This is where the process can differ between contractors. Different mixtures can be used for the process, including mortar, foam, or “mud.”

Using a level and other measuring devices, the filler is injected until the sunken slab is corrected. The holes are then filled in with new cement. After cleanup, your sidewalk will look as good as new. Not only will the process enhance the beauty of your property, but it will also make it safer. Plus, concrete is much less expensive than slab replacement. Fewer materials, resources and time go into it, so you can have your sidewalk back in no time.
