Mr. Corletta obtained a superior disposition for a college engineering student who needs to have a clean record in People v. T.J. (Henrietta Tn. Ct., 10/26/17)

In that case, Mr. Corletta's client, a college student, allowed their insurance to lapse, resulting in suspension of the registration for the vehicle. The client was charged with a misdemeanor Suspended Registration charge, as well as Operating Without Insurance, which can carry a 1 year license revocation.

Acting quickly, Mr. Corletta instructed the client on how to terminate the suspended registration and quickly contacted the District Attorney, explained the underlying circumstances, and that the plates on the vehicle had been surrendered.  As a result, Mr. Corletta obtained an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal, meaning the client’s record will not be impacted in any way, and the client will suffer no fine, penalty, forfeiture, etc. Further, Mr. Corletta was able to achieve this in a single Court appearance.

Accordingly, the client’s driving and criminal record will not be impacted, and the client will avoid large fines and civil penalties for operating without insurance, which is important for young People, for whom auto insurance is quite expensive. The client was naturally quite grateful for this quick and expeditious result.
