Each room in your home plays a specific role in your day-to-day life. As such, each space should have a specific lighting scheme. Whether you are working with chandeliers, floor lamps, sconces, or assorted custom lighting options with colored light bulbs, the result should be both functional and aesthetically-pleasing.

Use these furniture arrangement tips to ensure the pieces in the following rooms work with your chosen lighting scheme:

  • sconcesDining Room: A beautiful chandelier looks fantastic in the center of your dining room, shedding just enough light over the table and chairs. For the best results, these pieces of furniture should be in the middle of the room and directly below the chandelier. Add a side bureau to either the right or left wall, and install one or two sconces above it to complete the design.
  • Bedroom: Creating a soft glow is the usual aspiration when designing bedroom lighting. If you have a large, grand bed, make it the focal point of the room by utilizing a triangular lighting scheme. Install sconce lighting on the wall opposite the bed to create the “peak” of the triangle, and use floor lamps with soft light bulbs on either side of the head of the bed to make the other two points. Or, you can also place table lamps on bedside tables.
  • Living Room: In the living room, both furniture and light should be spread throughout the space. Arrange a seating collection, such as a sofa, loveseat, and chair in the middle of the room so that the ceiling lights fall directly over them. Add end tables on either side of the sofa, and place table lamps on one or both of them. If the light bulbs in the table lamps are strong enough, they could serve as substitute lighting when ceiling lights are too much. If you own vintage furniture you would like to highlight, consider making a second sitting space in a corner and using sconces overhead to create a softly-lit display.
