Are you considering remodeling your living or work space with new draperies or curtains?  Planning to do it on your own? If done correctly, Do It Yourself (DIY) projects are often rewarding endeavors as it provides a sense of accomplishment and saves money.  As with all DIY projects, the most important step in achieving success requires planning.  In decorating a living or work space with drapery panels or curtains, consult with window covering experts such as the professionals at Kreative Kamaaina Enterprises.  The insights and tips from professionals will save time and money.

Although simple and elegant in appearance, the subtle details of the drapery panel or curtain must be addressed during the design phase to achieve the desired appearance and fall within budget.  Do you want the drapery to look full and elegant or flat with clean lines?  Is a classic pleated design more suitable to capture the ambiance of the room or a soft wavy feel of a ripple fold header more appropriate?  Maybe a wood pole with grommets?  So many options and there’s no better place to start than the showroom and workroom at Kreative Kamaaina.  Review all the details and move forward confidently.

Upon selecting the window treatment style, the next critical step is taking the measurements.  Follow the golden rule of measuring three times and ordering once.  As the window treatments are custom manufactured, the measurements must be extremely accurate to avoid additional alteration or full replacement charges.  Considering that most window frames and rooms are not perfectly square, employ the technique of taking three measurements vertically (right, middle and left) and horizontally (top, middle and bottom).

With regards to the vertical measurement of the drapery height, select the shortest measurement to prevent the panel from dragging on the floor.  Typically, the panel should hang and rest 1/4” – 1/2” above the floor surface.  Take note of the drapery hardware or track and make allowances for the hook setting on the drapery panel in determining the height of the drapery panel.  If in doubt, call or visit the friendly staff at Kreative Kamaaina.

With respect to the horizontal measurement, the top measurement will be the most important on an inside mount as it will house the drapery track or hardware.  If the lower horizontal measurement is larger than the top, consider an outside mount to avoid the peep holes on the sides of the window frame. On an outside mount of drapery panels, the typical measurement would be four inches larger than the window frame to achieve privacy and reduce light exposure.
