Distance, work commitments, family issues — there are many reasons for being unable to attend a funeral service. However, plenty of options exist for sending heartfelt condolences. It may not be possible to be there in person, but you can still let grieving friends and family members know you are thinking about them. At Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, we encourage such activities and have provided residents of the Greater Trumbull, CT, community with funeral services, grief counseling, eulogy writing, and more since our beginning in 1906.

Review some of the many things you can do to say, “I’m sorry for your loss” if you cannot attend the funeral service in person:

  • Make a Donation: Make a donation in the name of the deceased loved one. Pick a charity the person felt strongly about to keep their memory alive. For example, if the loved one was passionate about environmental causes, have a tree planted in the person’s name. Pay for a plaque that says, “In loving memory of [person’s name]” and mentions how much the loved one cared about keeping the planet green and beautiful.

  • Send Flowers & Cards: Send a lovely floral arrangement to the family for display at the funeral or memorial service. Choose blooms that represent compassion and love, or opt for the loved one’s favorite flowers. Include a card that details your affection and respect for the departed, as well as mentioning while you cannot attend the funeral service, your thoughts are with the family.

  • funeral serviceShow Support After the Funeral: Let the family and friends of the loved one know you are there for them in after the funeral is over. You may not have been able to attend the funeral service, but you can still help the family in many ways. Help clean out the departed person’s house, provide assistance in the event of an estate sale, or simply just be there. Cook dinners, take friends and family to movies, go for walks in the park, etc. Giving the gift of your time can go a long way in showing your support for the departed’s family.

Discuss these and many other ways to show grieving friends and family members how much you love them with our compassionate staff. We are here to make the process of saying goodbye to a cherished loved one a little easier.
